I’ve used Shredlights for years — many of their products with each new generation.
They make huge improvements in the performance, durability, functionality, and quality with each new generation. The only downside is that I’ve gotta keep buying new Shredlights because they keep getting better!
Even with the little stuff like this USB-C cable, they make strides with each generation: With the previous micro-USB cables, the could probably only pull enough wattage to charge two lights at a time. USB-C allows for more power draw, so they can probably then switch from a dual to a quad USB splitter to charge pairs of front and rear lights at once from a single port.
So, the switch to USB-C doesn’t just help them stay up to date with other tech. It’s objectively a better port than micro USB, which is bigger and always requires fumbling to insert with the right orientation. Importantly, USB C makes it so they can charge the lights potentially faster, probably begin to support more modern charging protocols with each generation (eg, PD3), and immediately makes it so they can just pull more power to charge four lights from one port. Very cool!
And, fwiw, the support team at Shredlights have always been fantastic and go above and beyond. Most companies these days seem to do everything they can to put you into a drawn out and painful support process until you just give up. Shredlights has always responded quickly and staff seem to show a real personal interest going above and beyond in helping you out in any way they can.
I really couldn’t recommend them more. Honestly I hope they continue to expand their product lineup, because they are the sort of company I’d buy almost anything from given how they treat their customers and strive to improve their products — even down to the USB cables :)
